LONG POST BECAUSE I DIDN’T FEEL LIKE DOING A VOICEOVER🤣

So we finally combined my client-cousin’s locs!! And listen… she been talking about doing this for a while because she wanted something easier to maintain on her own.

At first I was like, okay cool, we can do that.
But when she actually came in for the appointment I was like… hold up… what did I sign up for?🤣

But it’s cousin, so you already know… we got it done.

What we did was use her back row as the guide, because those locs were already the exact thickness she wanted throughout her head.

From there we started combining the locs. Most of them were two locs at a time, but some sections were smaller so we had to combine three locs together to get that consistent size.

Now one thing about this process — the integrity of the loc is the most important part. If your locs are weak, breaking, or unhealthy, this type of transformation is not for you; it could actually damage them further.

But if your locs are healthy and you’ve been thinking about combining them for easier maintenance, this might be the move.

It’s not cute. It’s not quick. And it’s definitely not clean.

Combing out locs looks like piles of hair, constant shedding, and strands everywhere.
Your hair will look thinner before it looks healthy. That’s normal.

What you’re seeing is months—sometimes years—of shed hair being released all at once.
It’s not your hair “falling out.” It’s your hair finally letting go.

During a comb-out, the hair gets stretched, separated, and worked hard.
So don’t be surprised if it looks frizzy, uneven, or less dense right after. That’s part of the process.

And most of all (holding your hand as I say this)….YOU MOST CERTAINLY WILL LOSE SOME LENGTH! Meaning don’t expect to leave with the same amount of loc length you came in with. All cases are not the same but your loose hair length will not equal your loc length, this mainly in cases of more mature locs.

The aesthetics can be alarming if no one prepared you—but they don’t tell the whole story.

This is why education matters before the decision, not after.
